What’s Happening?

• The Canadian Theatre Critics Association announced a panel on “Non-Traditional Casting and Criticism” on November 21 and Tony Nardi started writing another letter
• The Children’s Activity Tax Credit passed in the Ontario legislature; instruction in the dramatic arts is one of the approved activities
• The Ontario Arts Council announced that English-speaking artists who live on the Quebec side of the border in the National Capital Region are now eligible to apply for OAC grants
• The Seniors Artists Research Project investigated the circumstances, situation, needs and interests of Canadian senior artists; the findings were startling, but perhaps not unexpected
• The people who hand out the Wasserstein Prize in the U.S. decided that this year there were no outstanding plays by emerging female writers; as you might expect, there was some disagreement and a modest proposal

• Playwrights Canada Press launches A Foster Christmas (an anthology of Norm Foster’s Christmas plays) on November 20 at TheatreBooks, with “holiday treats and a fireside reading”
• And go back TheatreBooks on November 24 to hear Catherine Banks read from her work as part of Playwrights Guild of Canada’s “Meaningful Words” series
• Toronto’s Factory Theatre has its OAC Theatre Creators Reserve grant deadline on November 26
• 4th Line Theatre in Millbrook is inviting OAC Theatre Creators Reserve grant applications; deadline is January 14
