- Is there a Bechdel Test for theatre? Personally, I don’t think it’s adaptable from the film version of the test, but I think the underlying significant idea is responsible playwriting, responsible programming
- Pre-scheduled tweets: I’ve always hated them myself, but here is an awful reminder from the Downsview Park stage collapse tragedy of why they should be avoided
- Big thanks to Leonard McHardy of TheatreBooks for the kind shout-out to us on CBC Toronto’s Fresh Air!
- Ottawa Little Theatre is celebrating their 100th anniversary, and are looking to connect with alumnae
- Hill Strategies Research released their analysis of Statistics Canada’s Government Expenditures on Culture 2009-2010; Ontario is 9th out of 10 in per-capita provincial spending, and with all levels of government factored in, we rise to 7th
- The news that Ken Gass had been dismissed as Artistic Director of Factory Theatre, as reported in the Toronto Star and the Globe and Mail; and Factory’s announcement of a national search for a new Artistic Director (PDF)—all shared without comment, as emotions are pretty high
- Elaine Calder was announced as the new Executive Director of the Shaw Festival; for trivia buffs, she was also the very first recipient of our old Victor C. Polley Award, a kind of “rookie of the year” here-is-someone-you-should-pay-attention-to for new arts administrators
- Congratulations to all of the recipients of the Toronto Arts Foundation Awards, with a tip of the hat to Jini Stolk who received the William Kilbourn Award for the Celebration of Toronto’s Cultural Life; Jini is a past recipient of the Sandra Tulloch Award for Innovation in Arts and Culture and a current member of the award jury
